In spite of a relatively low melting and pouring temperature due to the fact that aluminium alloys are treated between 650 and 800°C, liquid aluminium is a redoubtable corrosive agent for the refractories used for the lining of the melting and holding furnaces, filter boxes and transport ladles of liquid metal. In collaboration with the French Technical Centre for Foundry Industries (CTIF), UCPI has managed to solve this ceramic/metal compatibility problem. In 1975, a patent was registered and granted in main industrialized countries. Since that time, UCPI produces non wetted refractory castables perfectly resistant against the corrosion by liquid aluminium. These castables are used by aluminium producers, smelters, founders, and transformers to line melting and holding furnaces, transfer and transportation ladles, filtration systems and launders. Thanks to the research carried out since 1975, UCPI has constantly made progress in the development of new castables to satisfy all demands of the aluminium world. This is why UCPI has become the partner of the most important aluminium production companies, for instance aluminium PECHINEY in France. |
