One of the most well-known way of reproducing ornamental pieces by moulding is to cast a plaster based or a cement based slurry into a rubber mould. This slurry sets solid in 30 minutes to 3 hours. UCPI is very involved in this way of moulding which is related very often to foundry and glass work. Based on plasters or on special cements plus additives, the ready-to-use UCPI products are easy to handle with a minimum of technical moulding knowledge : just add the correct quantity of water and mix well to obtain a castable slip. For instance, the aesthetic properties of special plasters can be used to obtain white and strong pieces to imitate porcelain biscuit-ware, or other pieces to be painted or to make a patina, the sole objective being to decorate them. Another example is to use different mixes of granulates with special cements, to imitate stone pieces of various colors and origins and thereby obtain many kinds of stones known as "reconstituted stones". UCPI's moulding products mixed with water give good castable slurries which are generally cast into rubber toolings. Setting is quick and after a few hours, the piece can be finished off, ready to paint or to make a patina or simply to sell as it is.
